This painting is inspired by Autumn in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado where I live. Late September to early October is the peak season for Fall Foliage in the the Rocky Mountains. I love this time of the year and the fleeting magic of the changing colors, the cooling air and the various smells in the air. Camping in among the fall landscape allows for incredible evenings in more secluded parts of the mountains. This painting is an impression of a compilation of such evenings when the bright colors of the surrounding scenery make up for the cooler temperatures. This evening light is as fleeting as the season but it creates the most amazing atmosphere.
